HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.
- Northern Kentucky University’s Derrik Moeves has been named
the Great Lakes Valley Conference co-Pitcher of the Week, the league
announced Monday.
Moeves, a junior right-hander
and a graduate of Highlands High School, became NKU’s all-time
career strikeout leader last week with 251 while posting a 2-0 record.
Moeves began the week by coming out of the bullpen and pitching
2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Norse in a 10-4 win over
Bellarmine on Wednesday. He picked up the win in that game and struck
out four batters.
Moeves capped the week
with a 5-0 shutout against Southern Indiana on Saturday. He struck
out five batters in that game and recorded his second shutout of
the season.
For the week, Moeves
pitched 9 2/3 innings and did not allow a run. He also had a total
of nine strikeouts.
Moeves has a GLVC-leading
91 strikeouts this spring and is 12 shy of breaking his own single-season
NKU record of 102, which he set last year. Moeves is 6-5 going into
this week with a 2.50 earned run average.
Moeves shared the weekly
honor with Mike Stitz of Saint Joseph’s.
NKU will begin play
in the GLVC Tournament at noon (Central time) Thursday against Quincy
at O’Fallon, Mo. The Norse are the No. 3 seed, while Quincy
is the No. 4 seed.
