O’FALLON, Mo. – Danny Lewis took a share of second
place individually as the Northern Kentucky University men’s
golf team posted a sixth-place finish at the Triton Invitational.
Lewis,
the seventh-ranked player in the Midwest Region according to Golfstat,
carded a 2-under-par 142 (70-72) in the 36-hole event,
finishing four strokes behind medalist Brooks Herrick (68-70—138)
of Bellarmine.
It marked the best finish of 2008 for Lewis, a sophomore
from Morrow, Ohio, who leads the team with a scoring average of
72 through the
fall season. Five different NKU players have now finished in the
top two in tournaments this fall, with three Norse golfers claiming
medals.
Clint Kohls (75-74—149) shot a 5-over-par to take a share of
16th place in the tournament. Jeremy Martin (75-77—152) tied
for 23rd place
at 8-over-par, while Eric Fuldner (75-78—153) rounded out
the team scoring with a 9-over-par, good for a 28th-place finish.
Other NKU performers included Janson Cahill (150, 19th), Cody Moore
(151, 21st), Josh Reece (153, 28th), Will Brown (154, 33rd) and
Matthew Poat (162, 41st).
Wisconsin-Parkside (288-290—578) won the team event in a
playoff against Bellarmine (282-296—578), with each shooting
2-over-par as a team. Drury (292-290—582), Lincoln (Mo.)
(296-294—590) and host Missouri St. Louis (294-298—592)
rounded out the top five.
NKU will continue its golf season in March. |
