MARION, Ill. – The Northern Kentucky University women’s golf team was unable to repeat as Great Lakes Valley Conference champions as the Norse finished 33-strokes and three places behind the University of Indianapolis at the Kokopelli Golf Course.

NKU was led by Lyndsey Bevill’s 21-over par 165 over the two-day event but the Norse just couldn’t overtake a strong Greyhound squad that was led by Kristi Piepenbrink, who shot a 7-over par to take home medalist honors.  Piepenbrink’s win marked the first time in three years that a Norse golfer didn’t win medalist honors.

Bevill, a junior from Sanders, Ky., tied for eighth place with UIndy’s Allison Tyler, Lewis University’s Jamie Siedlaczek, and Bellarmine’s Sarah Duplessis.

Sofie Rasmussen, who won medalist honors at 2008 GLVC Championships, finished tied for 13th-place with a 24-over 168.

Alicia Stauffacher finished tied for 18th-place with 27-over par 171 while teammates Charity Evans (85-88—173) and Hannah Lindauer (89-89—178) completed the roster for the Norse.  Stauffacher and Rasmussen are the only seniors on this year’s squad.

Indianapolis, who won their first GLVC Championship since the 2001-02 season, was the only team that saw all five golfers place in the top-20.  The Greyhounds blew away the competition by shooting 22-strokes better than second-place finishing Drury University.
