GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Northern Kentucky University men’s golf team played to a ninth-place finish at the Grand Canyon University Thunderbird Invitational this week.
The Norse (294-283-286) carded a one-under-par 863 and were the last of nine teams to shoot under par on the tournament. Chico State (283-281-277—841) finished 23-under-par, winning the event in a tiebreaker with Cal State-San Bernadino (276-286-279—841).
Individually, Kenny Pigman of CSUSB took the medal with an 11-under-par (65-70-70—205) performance. The Norse were led by Eric Fuldner (71-65-77—213) who shot the low round of 65 in Round 2 en route to a three-under-par, 18th place finish. Danny Lewis (75-71-70—216) shot even par to share 30th place.
Jeremy Martin (73-73-73—219) shot a consistent three-over-par to finish tied in 39th position. Clint Kohls (76-76-69—221) carded five-over-par to take 48th place and lent his Round 3 score to the team total while Will Brown (75-74-74—223) shared 57th place to round out NKU’s performance in the event.
NKU returns to action closer to home this weekend when the Norse host the Midwest Regional Invitational at Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky. on April 4-5. |
