EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Freshman Danny Lewis and junior Eric
Fuldner tied for second overall as the Northern Kentucky University
men’s golf team won the SIUE Men’s Cougar Classic this
weekend at Sunset Hills Country Club.
Lewis (77-71 148) and
Fuldner (74-74 148) each shot a 4-over-par, finishing just two
strokes
behind Wisconsin-Parkside’s Garrett
Thompson (76-70 146), who took the medal.
Wil Brown (75-75 150)
and Carl Hays (81-70 151) also finished in the top ten to help
the Norse (313-291 604) outpace the second-place
Rangers (309-310 619) by 15 strokes.
Clint Kohls (77-78\ 155)
finished 11th overall. Jim Akerstrom (75-86 161) lended his first-round
75 to the team score, finishing
tied
for 27th overall.
Individual finishers for NKU included Andrew
Jewell (85-77 162), who tied for 30th, Shawn Chadwell (85-80
165), who shared
37th
position, and Austin Derkson (88-94 182), who finished 63rd.
It
is the second consecutive tournament won by the Norse, who captured
the NKU Fall Invitational last weekend at Perry
Park.
NKU returns to action Sunday at the Great Lakes Regional
in South Haven, Mich.
