BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Alicia Stauffacher placed third as the Northern Kentucky University women’s golf team took sixth place at the Ferris State Invitational at Katke Golf Course.

Stauffacher shot a 4-over-par (75-76—151) to lead the Norse in the event and finish just four strokes off the pace set by medalist Jacqueline Benscoter (74-70—144) of Ferris State.

The host Bulldogs won the team event, shooting a combined 40-over par (309-307—616). The Norse finished 25 strokes behind (322-329—651) in their first event of the season.

Alicia Lawrence (79-85—164) finished tied for 29th at 20-over-par. Sofie Rasmussen’s (83-84—167) 23-over-par was good for a share of 40th, while Nicole Hess (85-85—170) scored a 26-over-par for a 51st place finish. Charity Evans (94-84—178) finished tied for 73rd, and Hannah Lindauer (88-91—179) placed 78th.

The NKU women roll right into the Grand Valley State Invitational at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich. Monday and Tuesday. The men’s team opens its 2007-08 season Tuesday at the Indianapolis Invitational in Camby, Ind.
