LOCKPORT,
Ill. – Playing your best at the end of the year is always
a good thing and it seems like the Northern Kentucky University
women’s golf team is doing just that.
NKU (311-314—625)
won the two-day, ten-team Lewis Aviator Classic at Prairie Bluff
Golf Course with a five-stroke advantage
over Southern Indiana (315-315—630) for their first team
victory of the spring season.
Alicia Lawrence
(77-76—153)
was the top performer for coach Daryl Landrum’s squad as
the senior shot 9-over par to finish in third place individually.
Lawrence, a graduate of Williamstown
High School, was just eight shots back of the tournament winner
from USI, Jess Dooley (75-70—145). Amy Sachs (75-77—152)
of Lewis finished the event in second place.
Charity
Evans (78-78—156),
a freshman from Oldtown, Ky., shot a career best over the course
of a two-round event, which
was good enough for a sixth-place finish.
Alicia Stauffacher
(77-81—158) and Sofie Rasmussen (79-79—158)
were the next-highest Norse finishers as each shot 14-over
par to tie for eighth place.
Lyndsey Bevill
(83-81—164),
Hannah Lindauer (83-82—165),
and Nicole Hess (89-86—175) were the other NKU golfers
to compete in the Aviator Classic. Bevill’s 20-over par
was good enough for 17th place and was followed closely behind
by Lindauer’s 21-over par for 18th position. Hess completed
the 55-golfer event tied for 35th with a 31-over par.
NKU will
take to the links on April 25-27 for the Great Lakes Valley
Conference Championships at the Kokopelli Golf Course
in Marion, Ill. The Norse have already played at Kokopelli
GC once this year, taking a 27-stroke victory back in the
fall.
