GOODYEAR,
Ariz. - The Northern Kentucky University golf team closed out
the Grand Canyon University Thunderbird Invitational by shooting
a third-round 292 to finish seventh.
The Norse (293-292-292-877)
remained consistent throughout the 54-hole event, but could
not catch up to NAIA opponent Wayland
Baptist (290-278-277-845), which won the team event by four strokes
over Day 1 leader Central Oklahoma (281-283-285-849).
Host Grand Canyon, Western Washington, Point Loma Nazarene and
California State-San Bernardino separated the Norse from the
top of the leaderboard.
Wayland Baptist's
Kevin Stinson (72-69-64-205) took the medal, winning the individual
event by three strokes over
teammate Jeff
Dagg (70-66-72-208) and Western Washington's Jake Koppenberg
(69-73-66-208).
NKU's Tyler
Adkins (72-72-72-216) shot even par to share 11th place and lead
the Norse, while Carl Hays (74-74-71-219)
and
Andrew Jewell
(71-75-73-219) finished 20th place and Danny Lewis (77-71-76-224)
took 49th place to round out the team scoring. Eric Fuldner
(76-78-80-234) wrapped up NKU's participation at 86th place.
Northern
Kentucky returns to action this weekend when the Norse host
the Great Lakes Regional Invitational at Cherry
Blossom
Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky.
