VEVAY, Ind. - The Northern Kentucky University men's golf team shot an 18-hole, school-record 277 (-7) Sunday to defeat Bellarmine at the par-71 Belterra Golf Club.

David Shearer took first-place honors by firing a 4-under-par 67. Shearer shot 33 on the back nine and edged out teammate Andrew Jewell, who finished with a 3-under-par 68.

Jewell also fired a 33 on the back nine Sunday, but Shearer held on for the one-stroke win.

NKU defeated Bellarmine (305) by 28 strokes in the contest.

The Norse's 7-under-par performance eclipsed last season's 18-hole record of 5-under par at the Perry Park Golf Course. In that event, NKU shot a school-record round of 283 (-5) at the par-72 course.

Clint Kohls finished with a 70 and took third-place honors for NKU, while teammate Eric Fuldner shot 72 and was fourth. NKU golfers Tyler Adkins and Jon Ehlen each shot 74 and tied for fifth place.
