LOCKPORT, Ill. - The Northern Kentucky
University men’s golf team finished as runner-up at the NCAA
Division II Great Lakes Super Regional on Wednesday with a three-round
total of 885 (+21) at the par-72 Prairie Bluff Golf Club.
NKU held a one-stroke
lead over Saginaw Valley State entering the final 18 holes, but
the Cardinals rallied by shooting 294 (+6) Wednesday and finished
with a total of 883. Saginaw Valley State’s Adam Miller shot
a 4-under-par 68 during the final round to key the comeback by the
Cardinals.
NKU’s Mark Krahe
shot 72 during the final round and placed fourth with a three-day
total of 217. NKU golfers Andrew Jewell and Jon Ehlen each totaled
224 for the tournament and tied for 13th place.
Jerod Cahill finished
16th with a score of 225, and David Shearer was 25th with a total
of 228.
Saginaw Valley State
earned a spot in the upcoming NCAA Division II national finals,
which will be held May 16-19 at the Glade Springs Resort in Daniels,
W. Va. Winona State from the Central Region - also played at the
Prairie Bluff Golf Club as part of the Super Regional format - also
advanced to the national finals.
NKU had won the past
two Great Lakes Region titles.
