NKU OPENS SEASON AGAINST MONTEVALLO |

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team begins the season Friday by participating in the University of West Florida Comfort Inn-vitational at Pensacola, Fla. NKU plays the University of Montevallo (Ala.) at 8:30 a.m. Friday in the opener. The Norse will face the University of West Alabama later that day at 2 p.m. NKU will conclude the tournament Saturday with matches against Mesa (Colo.) State College and host West Florida. In the opener, NKU will meet a Montevallo squad that posted a 23-7 record last season. NKU finished with a 26-12 record in 2003 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament. NKU CELEBRATES 30TH SEASON: The NKU volleyball program begins its 30th season of competition in 2004. The Norse own an all-time record of 719-325 in 29 years. KORALEWSKI NEARS 1,000 KILLS AT NKU: Senior outside hitter Kristin Koralewski enters the season with 926 career kills at NKU. Koralewski recorded 580 kills, 487 digs, 26 double-doubles and was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year in 2003. Koralewski was also an NCAA Division II first team All-America selection last season. A transfer from Northern Michigan University, Koralewski collected 354 kills for the Wildcats during the 2000 season and was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year. FAMILIAR FACES: When NKU plays West Florida on Saturday, the Norse will face former teammates Kaliana Kalache and Marcela Cunha. Kalache and Cunha transferred to West Florida after last season, and both are expected to see significant playing time for the Argonauts this fall. |
