Director for Liberal Studies Programs
The College of Arts and Sciences seeks applications for a Director of Liberal Studies Programs. The successful candidate has the opportunity to provide leadership in enhancing Arts and Sciences’ efforts in integrative studies -- at the associate, bachelor, and master’s levels -- in collaboration with our new Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Studies. Principal duties will be to:
- Enhance the student learning experience through curriculum refinements related to tracks, core classes, and capstone classes for any of the 3 degrees.
- Work directly with Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) students to develop their unique plans of study.
- Work in partnership with other advisors to strengthen a seamless advising system for associate and bachelor degree students.
- Develop a collaborative supervisory working relationship with the MALS graduate assistant.
- Serve as an effective spokesperson and advocate for the liberal studies program.
Further, the candidate will work with the Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Studies to build a bridge between the Interdisciplinary Studies program and liberal studies degrees and to address various interdisciplinary tasks as they arise. The candidate will teach at least one course per semester. Teaching assignments are likely to include undergraduate core interdisciplinary curriculum, MALS 601 – Graduate Research and Writing, or various MALS seminars/topics courses. This 12-month position is for a 4-year term, with opportunity for renewal.
Essential Qualifications:
- Candidates may come from any discipline, as long as they demonstrate significant academic, scholarly, and/or experiential background in interdisciplinary studies relevant to Arts & Sciences.
- Candidates must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree. Ph.D. Preferred.
- Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to liberal studies.
- Candidates must have graduate faculty status or immediately begin the process to achieve it.
- Candidates must possess an innovative spirit as well as a creative approach to curriculum building, teaching, collaborating, and problem-solving.
