Scholarships
Several programs of study in the College of Arts & Sciences have scholarships available for degree-seeking students.
Some scholarships are offered by a department while others come through the Office of Student Financial Assistance.

Performing & Visual Arts majors
Music, Theatre Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be an undergraduate NKU theatre major; must be a music or theatre major; must show excellence in performance, potential, talent or aptitude in the arts as demonstrated by audition, interview or portfolio of work; must submit letters of reference from former and present instructors.
Amount: Varies.
Duration: One academic year, excluding summer sessions.

Art, Music, Theatre Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be an undergraduate art, music or theatre major; must demonstrate excellence in performance, potential, talent or aptitude in the arts as demonstrated by audition, interview or portfolio of work; must submit letters of reference from former and present instructors.

Gordon Brisker Memorial Music Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a degree-seeking student with a declared major in music. Preference will be given to applicants interested in jazz studies, primarily instrumental jazz studies. Must show excellence in performance, potential, talent or aptitude as demonstrated through performances before Department of Music faculty members.

Joseph Conger Musical Theatre Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be enrolled at Northern Kentucky University; must be a declared theatre major; must have minimum GPA of 3.0; must demonstrate excellence in theatre and dance performance.

Corbett Scholarship in Music and Theatre
Eligibility: Must have a declared major in music or theatre; must be a junior or senior; must have successfully completed two semesters of coursework at NKU; must have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0; must demonstrate significant level of performance proficiency.

Duration: One academic year, excluding summer sessions.

Friends of Fine Arts Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be an art, music or theatre major.
Amount: In-state tuition.

Jim Key Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a degree-seeking student with a declared major in music; must participate in departmental ensembles; must meet academic standards as required by the university and music department.

Robert Knauf Vocal Music Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be declared or intend to declare a major in vocal music with excellence in vocal music performances; must submit two letters of reference from former or present vocal instructors.

National City Music Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be admitted to Northern Kentucky University; must be a declared music major; must be studying with the Tom and Christine Neyer Professor of Music or other distinguished music faculty; must maintain minimum GPA of 3.0; must demonstrate excellence in music performance.

Schiff Family Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a declared major in the Visual Arts Department with a 3.0 GPA in art department courses and a 2.5 GPA overall. Preference will be given to a student working in photography or computer-based imaging.

Science & Mathematics majors
Burkardt Brothers Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a junior or senior majoring in mathematics or statistics; must have earned 24 credit hours in the previous academic year; must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and GPA of 3.0 in the mathematics major; must be a working student.
Amount: Varies.
Duration: One academic year, excluding summer sessions.

CINSAM Scholarship
Eligibility: First-time freshmen must have an ACT score of 25 or higher; must rank in the top 25% of their graduating class; must be a math or science major. Continuing students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA in their major of 3.0.
Amount: Full in-state tuition, textbook award and housing allowance.

Albert and Louise Cooper Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a junior or senior chemistry major enrolled for at least 10 credit hours.

William H. Greaves Undergraduate Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a science, math, computer science, pre-engineering, electronic engineering technology or manufacturing engineering technology major; freshmen must rank in the top 25% of their high school class and have an ACT composite score of 25 or higher; continuing students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
Amount: In-state tuition and books.
Duration: One academic year; renewable for 2-3 years, excluding summer sessions.

Michael C. Sanzere Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a geology major with a minimum GPA of 3.00.

Eligibility: Must be a mathematics or statistics major enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.

Ralph A. Tesseneer Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a junior or senior psychology major with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.

The Dorothy Westerman Herrmann Psychology Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a declared psychology major; must be of junior standing with at least 30 hours being completed at NKU; must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.

The Mark R. Herrmann History Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a declared history major; must be of junior standing with at least 30 hours being completed at NKU; must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.

Eric Meyer Poetry Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2004 by the family of Eric D. Meyer as a gift in memory of their son.
Eligibility: Must be a degree-seeking student enrolled in at least six credit hours; must be in good academic standing; must submit a portfolio of at least 10 pages of original poetry selections.
Amount: Varies.
Duration: One academic year, excluding summer sessions.

Collier CCSA London Winter Scholarship
This scholarship was established through the generosity of Dr. Robert Collier, a former professor of the Department of English at NKU. To honor the memory of his wife, Dr. Collier established the fund for NKU English or Theatre majors to participate in the CCSA London Winter programs. Through recent, generous donations to the Dr. Robert Collier fund, NKU students majoring in Theatre OR English participating on the 2009-2010 CCSA London Winter program are eligible to apply for this $700 scholarship.

Frank and Virginia R. Stallings English Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be an undergraduate English major who is a resident of Kentucky with a cumulative GPA of 2.85 or higher.

Barbara M. Collier Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Mert Freudenberg Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a declared major in the applied cultural studies program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; must have completed more than 30 credit hours but not filed a certificate of graduation. must show evidence of substantial service to department, program or student club. Must not be receiving another scholarship except for federal financial aid program.
Amount: Varies.

Political Science & Criminal Justice majors
Michael Partin Book Award Scholarship in Recognition of Outstanding Leadership, Service, and Character
Eligibility: Must be a fully admitted student in any of the majors within the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice; must be of senior standing by the end of the previous spring semester (associate degree students must have at least 45 hours by the end of the spring semester); must have completed a minimum of 12 hours within the Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice; Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00; must have interest in pursuing a career within the law enforcement field.
Amount: $500.

MPA Alumni Book Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be a fully admitted student in the Master of Public Administration program; must have minimum grade point average of 3.50.

World Languages & Literatures
Foreign Language Award for International Study (FLAIS)
Eligibility: Applicant must be enrolled in or have completed at least the 102 level at NKU in the language being pursued abroad and must be enrolled at Northern Kentucky University. Applicant must be accepted and participate in a study-abroad program approved by the NKU Office of Education Abroad. Language acquisition must be a major component of the study-abroad program.
Amount: Up to $500.
