Incoming Freshman Scholarships

Department of Visual Arts Freshman Scholarship

We are pleased to announce that the Visual Arts Department at Northern Kentucky University is offering two art scholarships for our incoming freshman students.  These scholarships are available to students majoring in Visual Arts, that have officially applied and been accepted to NKU.  Students interested in competing for scholarship support must fill out the NKU Department of Visual Arts Freshman Scholarship Application. 
The scholarship application deadline is February 1st. 

Two scholarships will be awarded, each for one semester of in-state tuition.

Kentucky Governor's Scholars Award Scholarships

If you have participated in the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts you may be eligible to apply for full in-state tuition at Northern Kentucky University.  Eligibility for this scholarship includes a 3.0 GPA or higher, a class rank in the top 20%, an ACT composite score of 24 or higher or an SAT score of 1090 or higher and must be a degree-seeking student.

Current Student Scholarships

Artwork Review

Friday, April 6, 2012  9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Artwork and forms must be set-up by 8:30 a.m. on the review day, or you will not be considered for scholarship. Review of artwork will be completed by 12 noon. Artwork can be removed from the rooms after 1 p.m. No artwork can be left in rooms over the weekend.

Art Department Scholarships

Students majoring in Art may compete yearly for scholarship support. If you would like scholarship support you must fill out the NKU Department of Visual Arts Scholarship Application. The typed or printed out applications must be next to your artwork
display. No handwritten forms will be accepted.

The artwork will be judged on its merits by the faculty who will also consider your grade point average in art, participation in art department courses and activities and your citizenship in the larger arts community.

Eligibility

  • Entrants must be able to be a full time student and must maintain a 3.0 average in Art and 2.5 overall average to receive and retain the scholarship.
  • Part-time students may apply for scholarship support, but must be a full-time student in the scholarship award year.
  • Previous scholarship winners may re-apply for scholarship support.

Number of Scholarships

Scholarships given are the Art Department, Friends of Fine Arts, and the Schiff Family Photography Scholarships. The number of scholarships available is determined by the funds available. Several alternates will also be chosen. You must fill out a scholarship application and enter 3 pieces of artwork to be eligible for scholarship support.

Format

  • Each student can enter up to 3 pieces of artwork accompanied by a filled out scholarship application.
  • Artwork and applications will be reviewed from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
  • Artwork must have been completed in the past year.
  • Students will be notified by email and letter of a scholarship award.
  • Each student that receives financial support will exhibit one piece of artwork in  the annual Juried Student Exhibition the next academic year.

  • 2d Artwork: Fine Arts Center 415, 414, 309 and 332
  • 3d Artwork: Ceramic and Sculpture Building
  • 4d Artwork: Space applicable (C & S Building or Fine Arts Center)
