Annual Juried Student Exhibition

Important Dates

Exhibition Dates: March 19 - April 3, 2009         
Closing Reception:  Thursday, April 2 from 5 - 8pm
Awards Ceremony: Thursday, April 2 at 6 p.m.

Delivery and Pickup

 Artwork received:  March 4 - 6 at Gallery Storeroom (FAC 325) between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. NO LATE ENTRIES. 

The artwork must be here by 4 p.m. on March 6 to be considered in the jurying process.  Artwork after 4 p.m. will not be accepted. Large 2-D should be delivered on the last day for drop-off for storage and or set-up. Large 3-D work can be set up in the Ceramics- Sculpture building for the jurying process.  Work that is accepted into the exhibition that was in the Ceramics-Sculpture building can be brought to the galleries for installation on March 17 & 18.

Work not accepted for exhibition must be picked up in the Gallery storeroom (FAC 325B) March 16 & 17 from 1a.m. -4:30 p.m. 

After exhibition, all accepted work must be picked up Saturday, April 5, Monday, April 7 and Tuesday, April 8 from 11-4pm.  Work may not be left, or it will be thrown away. There is an exhibition that will open on April 10th, and your artwork must be picked up or removed.

Reception

Closing reception will be on the Thursday, April 2 from 5 - 8 p.m..
Awards and Visual Arts Scholarships will be announced at 6 p.m.

Rules

An outside juror will jury all work from visual arts students into the exhibition. You must be currently be enrolled as a student and have taken an art class within the last academic year.  Artwork must be ready to install.  If artwork is difficult to install or has instructions, they must be included with entry.

Participation

Entry is not just limited to declared art majors, but is open to all students, as long as you have taken an art class within the last academic year.

Number of entries

Up to 5 pieces of any medium finished in the appropriate manner ready to be displayed.  Two entry forms should be filled out for each piece and attached to the artwork.

General Information

Aspects, which may be looked at during the jurying process. (However, the juror may bring his/her own opinion and criteria to the jurying process):

  • Creative expression
  • Demonstrated craft/technique in media
  • Craftsmanship
  • Presentation (neatness, if appropriate)
  • Evidence of problem solving in artwork
  • Consistent thematic body of artwork or consistent stylistic range in artwork
  • Effective use of form (if appropriate)
  • Effective use of color (if appropriate)

Awards

  • Best of Show (overall of all the entries)
  • 2-D (drawing, painting, photo, printmaking, computer, graphic design, artist’s book, mixed media)
  • 3-D (ceramics, sculpture, mixed media)
                

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How old can artwork be? 
    Artwork must be produced in the last two years.  High school work is not eligible.
  2. Does a series of work count as one piece? 
    No.  A series of work is made up of several individual pieces of artwork.  Each piece of artwork would be counted as one entry.
  3. Can I enter pieces that did not get in last year? 
    Yes, as long as it was not displayed in last year’s exhibition.
  4. When are the different media awards announced? 
    The awards in the different media are posted on the opening day.  Awards will be given out at the closing reception.
  5. I do not want my piece for sale do I still need to put a value for the work on the entry?
    Yes, The value is used to insure the artwork while it is in the galleries.  Mark the your entry from that the artwork is Not For Sale, and place a value for the artwork.
