Pottery Manufacture in Prehistory: An Examination of Ceramics in the Mun Valley from the Neolithic to the Origins of Angkor

This project has received funding from ASIANetwork Freeman Foundation Student Faculty Summer Fellowship for four Northern Kentucky University students and a faculty mentor to travel to mainland Southeast Asia during the summer 2005 to conduct analysis on ceramic material from the archaeological site of Ban Non Wat, northeast Thailand. Excavation at the site has revealed a prehistoric occupation sequence spanning from the Neolithic Period to the Early Historic Period (ca. 2400 B.C. to 800 A.D.) The proposed research will provide students with archaeological experience in mainland Southeast Asia and will also familiarize students with Thai culture and society.
