Job Description

 POSITION TITLE:       Assistant Counselor

 POSITION REPORTS TO:       Assistant Dean for Student Services

 FUNDAMENTAL OBJECTIVE OF THIS POSITION:

To serve as a primary contact for students providing walk-in, appointment, and emergency counseling services. Serve as an integral member of the Student Life team providing coordination or support of efforts to maintain and enhance student success.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:             

 Respond to student crises as needed;

 Provide appropriate services for any self-identified or referred student needing counseling for psychological, emotional/social, academic and career concerns;

                        Develop and facilitate counseling treatment plans in consultation with the Director of Counseling Services which include appropriate assessment, planning, treatment, monitoring, and referral;

                        Provide basic career exploration counseling through individual counseling and group programming;

                        Coordinate and deliver educational programming for students in residence facilities, especially first year student cluster programming;

                        Develop support groups for specific purposes as needed and conduct workshops designed to foster mental health and promote growth within the campus community;

                        Facilitate student services outreach training for professional and paraprofessional staffs, especially residential life personnel;

                        Develop and deliver academic support initiatives outside of classroom (especially in residential system);

                        Advise health and wellness student organizations as assigned or solicited;

                        Serve on Counseling Services professional staff on-call duty rotation; and

                        Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION:

 

Master's degree in Counseling or Psychology required, and Ohio licensure or licensure eligibility;

                        College experience and understanding of small liberal arts residential campus a plus; and

                         Weekend and evening work are vital to the success of this position.
