As a junior (in high school) I visited Northern, and everyone was really friendly. I took a campus tour and we saw all of the departments and I already – at that moment – felt like I belonged here.

I ended up coming here with two of my friends from high school and we lived in the dorms together. We had gone through summer orientation and we met a lot of people and that helped us to stay connected. We were all excited to get our college careers underway.

My hometown was four hours away, so it was nice to have those friends here supporting me. But I also got involved here on campus – in honors classes, which helped me meet people, and in other activities like the Delta Gamma sorority, the Freshman Service Leadership Committee and the NKU Dance Troupe.

I never thought I would be a member of a sorority, but I liked the fact that the group did so much service work. I felt that being here on scholarship, I was so lucky, so I needed to give something back by helping the school and the community. It also made me feel invested in the school, and it made my experience at NKU more rewarding because of that. We do a lot of fundraising for the visually impaired in Cincinnati and other charities.

I want students to know that college is what you make it. Get involved and do a lot of things. NKU gives you the freedom to develop your interests – in academics, in community service and in friendship. My goal is to be a dance instructor and have my own studio.

NKU is giving me the education I need.
