Black Student Organizations Doing Great Things within the NKU Community!

African American students at Northern Kentucky University are not only dedicated to bettering their lives through personal and academic development, they are also dedicated to making positive influences in the lives of others.  This past fall two outstanding black student organizations worked to prove that student groups can think outside the social programming box and selflessly enhance their communities.

The NKU Kappa Tau Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc.  promoted academic excellence within the NKU campus community by awarding two deserving students with a $200 achievement scholarship.  Understanding
the financial burdens that African American students regularly encounter, Kappa pledged to annually
reward one male and one female

The difference being university charges you money for a credit; life rewards you with a credit in experience.”

S.T.A.R., Students Together Against Racism, showed their concern for life outside of the NKU community by hosting a dialogue with the mothers of Jena Six.  This event allowed NKU and Greater Cincinnati citizens to discuss the racial relation issues within this country and helped shed light on adversities that still plague

"In order to face the problems of our society and to resolve them without violence we need to talk sensibly, not bicker back and forth." It is S.T.A.R.’s hope that the Jena Mothers program will spark more conversation about modern day racism and will encourage everyone to stay informed.
