Nýsa seeks to publish the best of undergraduate and student research from NKU. It provides an outlet for outstanding contributions from students in all fields, with special emphases on fields lacking in discipline-specific venues, research that spans several disciplines, and research that is smaller in scope but still tells a complete story.

ISRCA recognizes that research outcomes occur in a variety of sizes, and wants to highlight contributions of all magnitudes. ISRCA also recognizes that publication is a vital part of the research enterprise, and students should have the opportunity to participate in it. In addition to writing and revising their work, Nýsa seeks to engage
students in the review process. Editors will seek out faculty reviewers in the area of expertise and students in the same field.

Submissions and Student Editors

Nýsa, The NKU Journal of Student Research, is seeking submissions of articles, short communications, and reviews for its 2023-24 issue. Current students and recent graduates (within six months of graduation) from any discipline are encouraged to submit their work by Monday, May 15th.

Additionally, Nýsa is looking for 5 student editors for the 2023-4 academic year. Student editors will work faculty to screen submissions, coordinate peer review, and communicate with authors. Interested students should email nysa@nku.edu by September 18th.

Duties can start over the summer if the student is available. Nýsa also needs
student and faculty reviewers. If you are interested in signing up as a
potential reviewer and helping to support our students’ scholarship efforts, you can sign up here: https://bit.ly/3oX6mSZ

Submissions guidelines and more information can be found at nku.edu/journal or by emailing nysa@nku.edu.

Review Process

The first review should always be by the faculty mentor prior to submission.Submissions will be read by a member of the editorial board and if basic quality standards are achieved, sent to a faculty member who is in the field and
a student reviewer. Reviews will be completed, comments on the document
itself will be generated, and the reviewer will return a decision of ‘publish-as-is,’ ‘publish-following-revision,’ ‘revise-and-resubmit for review,’ or ‘do not publish.’ The editorial board member will then make a final determination and return their decision to the author, along with the reviews. Every effort to complete the review process within two months will be made. Should revisions be necessary, the editor will work
with the author and mentor to guide them through the revision process.

Copyright

Authors retain the copyright of their material and retain the ability to publish it elsewhere. The Journal reserves the right to reproduce and reprint published material for instructional and promotional purposes. Potential authors should be aware of their mentors’ plans, if any, to include their work in other publications, which may have restrictions regarding prior publications.
