Introduction to the new website

Welcome to the new nku.edu! The purpose of this section is to help get you a little more acquainted with the new website.

There are only a couple of things you'll need to know regarding the site, including how to:

Navigate the site

Navigation is broken up into 1) main navigation 2) top navigation and 3) bottom navigation. The main navigation is located on the left, and will be your primary way of navigating the site. The top navigation includes links at the very top that appear on every page within nku.edu, as well as important pages within a department's site. You will also notice that the quick links are still in the top right-hand corner and contain links to common applications our students use. The bottom navigation contains links to featured events, as well as the footer links that are listed on every page throughout nku.edu.

In the past, it was common for sites to try and list as many of the links in the site as possible on one page. At a university website, that is impossible to do. We are just too big. So in order to make things easier for you to find, we have spent months working out the layout and architecture for the site. When you click on a link, you will notice that the main navigation links will change and become links specific to the link that you just clicked.

In other words, the links in the main navigation will only relate to the current page that you are on. To get back to a section you were just in, you will need to ...

Get back to a section

... find the breadcrumbs at the top of the page. The breadcrumbs are your way of navigating up a level or two. They are really easy to use, and are very helpful in letting you know just where you are in the site.

To use them, simply click on the section you want to jump back to. It's that easy.

Search the site

We've all heard of Google. It is your friend. It will help you when you cannot find what you are looking for in the web site. Think of it as your personal web advisor.

Because we are rebuilding the site, we are able to optimize our pages for web searches. In order to use it, simply type in a keyword or two in the box at the top of the page and press enter on your keyboard.

The results shown are suggested pages that may have the information you're looking for.

Report issue(s), give feedback

Initially, the feedback link will be in the Featured area on the home page. Simply click the link, fill out the form, and that's it. The form is nice and simple. The only piece of information that is mandatory is the comment section. All other items are optional (name, website you are commenting about, etc...). You can also click Contact NKU in the footer, and click the feedback link in the right bar.

If you come across a problem, let us know about it through this form. If you love the site, and want to tell us about it, use the form. If you have any suggestions, DEFINITELY use the form.

The web is dynamic by nature. We listen.

A - Z index

Don't know where a department is located on the website?

As long as you know the department name, you can go to the A - Z index and find a list of all of the NKU departments in alphabetical order. The A - Z index is located at the bottom of every page in the area known as the footer.
