The study of history and historical methods trains students how to think deeply and critically, conduct in-depth academic research and analyze events in their historical context. History majors also learn to write clearly and professionally as well as communicate effectively in a seminar or group setting. Above all, students learn how to understand the human experience across time and cultures.
The successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in history prepares graduates for meaningful careers in such fields as government, law, education, business and public history. While only a small number of our graduates choose to pursue Ph.D. degrees in history, they have been placed at some of the world’s most prestigious research institutions.
Perspectives in History is an award-winning scholarly journal published by NKU students who are members of Alpha Beta Phi, a chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta international history honor society. In each issue, we publish research papers, essays and book reviews that are submitted by NKU history majors.
