NKU to host lecture on educating creative and entrepreneurial students
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University College of Education and Human Services will host a free public lecture by Dr. Yong Zhao on Thursday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.
Dr. Zhao is presidential chair and associate dean for global education at the University of Oregon. His lecture, which is part of the college’s Distinguished Scholars Series, will be titled “World Class Education: Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students.”
Dr. Zhao argues that the world needs creative and entrepreneurial talents who are globally competent to take advantage of the opportunities brought about by technology and globalization and to tackle the tough challenges. But, he says, our schools are pushed to produce homogenous, compliant and employee-minded test-takers as a result of what he calls the “seductive power of the traditional education paradigm.”
His presentation will challenge that paradigm, debunk the myths of international tests such as PISA and TIMSS, and propose a new paradigm of education aimed to cultivate diverse, creative and entrepreneurial talents. The presentation is based on evidence gathered from a variety of sources for his new book, World Class Learners: Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students (Corwin, 2012) and his book Catching Up or Leading the Way: American Education in the Age of Globalization (ASCD, 2009).
Admission is free but registration is encouraged. Online registration is available at http://www.surveymonkey.com/checkrequest.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/s/VGFSJRV.
