What are the responsibilities of a Student Orientation Leader???

Student Orientation Leaders have the opportunity to welcome new students and their guests/parents to the NKU community. SOL's assist the Orientation staff with programs, participate in information sessions, facilitate small group discussions, and always convey the spirit and sense of community that is a part of the NKU campus. For the 2008 Orientation programs, we will be hiring a total of 26 outstanding students to serve as SOL's.

Responsibilities

Public Relations-
SOLs function in a public relations role in everything that they do.
Community Development-
SOLs foster an environment that helps incoming students develop an identity as a member of the Northern community.
Logistics-
SOLs will escort students and family members to different events/activities on campus, assist in the preparation of orientation materials, and direct parking.
Other duties as assigned.

Compensation

This is a paid position. SOL’s will be required to live on campus in the Residence Hall. Housing Scholarships will be provided to the SOL’s selected. In addition, students will receive approximately $1600 stipend provided that they complete all the requirements of the position.

Requirements

Currently enrolled full-time as a undergraduate student
Must be enrolled at least through Fall 2006, preferred
Must be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.5 or better)
Must be available for training dates and all orientation sessions
Must contribute a total of 10 office hours per week during the summer (May 18-August 11)
Demonstrated leadership ability and public relations skills
Excellent team player
High energy level and enthusiasm
Excellent communication skills-you will be a constant reflection of NKU
Group facilitation experience-one function of the position will be to lead small groups
Familiarity with the University’s resources, services, and academic requirements
Maturity and independent judgment
