When can a new student begin to apply?
- New applications for the following academic year are generally available in October. However, students may apply at any time. Please contact the University Housing office directly if you wish to apply before October.
When is the application deadline?
- The priority deadline is May 1st for the Fall semester. The priority deadline for the Spring semester is October 1st.
Must a student be admitted to submit a Housing application?
- A student does not have to be admitted to submit their housing application. They may not move in to a residence hall until they have been admitted. If their admission is denied, the prepayment is refundable.
Is a prepayment required with the Housing application?
- Yes, a $200 prepayment is required. If an application is mailed without the prepayment, a letter is sent to that applicant indicating that their application will not be processed until the prepayment is received.
Can the prepayment be waived?
- No, a prepayment is required with all applications.
When will rooming assignments be mailed?
- Fall semester assignments will be mailed to all students (who submit their application before May 1st) by July 1st. Spring semester assignments will be mailed by December 15th.
Is a particular assignment or building guaranteed?
- The section on the application with room types is to list preferences only. There is no guarantee of any assignment, roommate or building.
When should a new student apply?
- Assignments are made based on the order that applications are received. It is best to get the application in as early as possible.
How/when can a student cancel their housing contract?
- A student may submit a written notice of cancellation for their contract anytime before the first day of classes. The prepayment will not be refunded unless the student is on a waiting list.
Is there a waiting list for housing? What would that mean for the student?
- If there is a waiting list for housing, each student on that list will receive a letter explaining their status. As soon as an assignment becomes available, they will receive an additional letter with the assignment information.
Can a waiting list student cancel their contract?
- If a student on the waiting list chooses to cancel their contract, they must submit that request in writing. A refund of the prepayment will be issued to that student as long as they have not been offered an assignment.
