Congratulations, and Welcome to the Northern Kentucky University community. The next stop to your academic journey is to be Exposed. That's right, attending Northern Exposure, the New Student Orientation program. As you begin to prepare for the transition to College, Northern has developed a comprehensive program to assist you in making a smooth and exciting transition. Orientation is an on-going process that begins when the student decides to attend Northern.
The mission of the Northern Kentucky University New Student Orientation program is to initiate an enduring connection between the students, their families and the NKU community. Through interactive experiences students will become informed and skilled learners of the academic programs and comprehensive services offered by NKU.
As you begin planning for your transition to college, we would like you to mark your calendars now to attend the New Student Orientation program. Orientation is required for all new traditional freshmen. This newly created program will allow you to make a connection earlier within your academic departments, register for classes and learn about the variety of services and leadership opportunities available to you as a student.

The Goals for Northern Exposure: New Student Orienation
- To foster an enviroment that promotes student satisfaction and academic success.
- To promote the integration of students into the intellectual, cultural, and social climate of the institution.
- Reinforce the students' decision to attend the University.
- Provide a positive orientation experience for parents and family members.
- Allow students to develop early indentification with an academic department.
- Provide opportunities to build a sense of community with other students, faculty and staff.
Transfer & Non-Traditional Orientation 2008 dates COMING SOON!
Transfer students will be advised and registered individually through their academic program. However will be encouraged to attend the Orientation program to pick up their student ID’s, parking permit, and learn about the other services available to them as an NKU student. Non-traditional Students (ages 23 and older) will be given the option to attend either the Two-Day Summer Orientation program and be advised during that program, or to attend the Nontraditional Student Orientation program and register individually through their academic department. Students who consider themselves to be non-traditional (example: married, have children) must contact the Office of New Student Orientation and Parent Programs at 859-572-1967 to determine what program is best suited for the individual’s needs:
