The following information should provide you with the basics about studying abroad through NKU.

Who is eligible for study abroad?

ALL undergraduate and graduate students of any major or discipline of study in good standing are eligible for study abroad.

Where can I study abroad?

ALMOST ANYWHERE. NKU-sponsored programs allow students to study in over
30 countries on 6 continents. If NKU does not have a program in a particular country
of interest, there may be an opportunity to study through another U.S. university or organization.

When can I study abroad?

ANYTIME during your academic career. Programs are available for a semester,
academic year, or short-term, during the summer or winter break.

Do I need to know a foreign language?

NO. While some programs do require foreign language competency, study abroad is not limited to those with a foreign language background. There are a variety of programs conducted in English around the world.

May I earn academic credit?

YES. Most programs are credit bearing.

Isn’t study abroad expensive?

NO. Many students assume that they cannot afford to study abroad but, in fact, almost
any student can afford to if he/she plans appropriately.

Is financial aid available?

YES. Most financial aid awards can be applied toward a study abroad program.

Are scholarships available?

YES. Northern Kentucky University has $150,000 available for the academic year 2007-2008 to provide primarily need-based study abroad scholarships. Other scholarships and grants are also available.

Do internships or work abroad programs exist?

YES. Although work abroad and international internships offer different experiences abroad,
they are very valuable programs.
