Mathematics Major Requirements from 2008-09 Catalog

Core Courses

  • MAT 129: Calculus I (4 credits) and MAT 229: Calculus II (5 credits)
    or
    MAT 128: Calculus A, MAT 227: Calculus B, and MAT 228: Calculus C (3 credits each)
  • MAT 194: Mathematical Sciences Seminar (1 credit)
  • MAT 234: Linear Algebra (3 credits)
  • STA 250: Probability and Statistics I (3 credits)
  • CSC 270: Mathematics Software Programming (3 credits)
    or
    INF 260 Computer Programming I (3 credits)
  • MAT 329: Multivariable Calculus (4 credits)
  • MAT 497: Mathematical Sciences Capstone (3 credits)

Electives: One of the following sets of 3-credit courses

  • MAT 302
    MAT 310 or MAT 410
    MAT 420 or MAT 430
    One 300-level or above MAT/STA course
    Two 400-level MAT/STA courses
  • MAT 325
    Two of MAT 330, MAT 360, MAT 375, and SCI 370
    Three 300-level or above MAT/STA courses

    One 300-level or above STA course

  • MAT 302

    One of the sequences of courses
    • STA 340/341 and one other 300-level or above MAT/STA course
    • MAT 325/330, MAT 310/410 and one other 300-level or above MAT/STA course
    • or two 400-level MAT/STA courses

A grade of C or better is required in each course applied to the major. At least 9 semester hours towards the major must be taken at NKU.
