Who picked it up? Fox... but just barely!
When does it air? Tuesdays at 8/7, but rumors are already swirling that Fox might pull the ol' switcheroo and air it an hour later (after House) in order to help it catch on with audiences.
Who stars? No one most people would know.
Why should you care? If you've got the patience for a slowly paced but ultimately rewarding show, then you've come to the right place. The lead is charismatic, the plot is intriguing, and overall there is a sense of old-fashioned, uncynical romance most television doesn't offer up in our jaded world.
Why should you worry? Because it is slow paced, it may not be the easiest catch for younger-skewing Fox. That same net also failed with older-skewing shows last season, and they certainly looked more exciting than this. And have you seen those previews?
Bottom line? Despite a lead character that has a lot of House's attitude (while still presenting it with a suave charm), things don't look good for New Amsterdam. Critics might fawn, but viewers will likely skip over this old-fashioned looking show. Fox seems to be well aware of this, too, and is rumored to have Canterbury's Law waiting in the wings.
