Wildlife

While the wildlife diversity is not as apparent as it was in the tropical rainforest, there are many different species of  birds, the most striking being the resplendent quetzal (Pharomachrus moccino).

We also observed many different species of humming birds, such as the green violet ear (Thalassinus cabanidis).  On our hike, we came across a pair of these who apparently had a nest they were protecting. They are very fierce little creatures who were not afraid to dive bomb us to get us to leave.

As opposed to the tropical forest, many of the birds were similar to those found in North America. Many varieties of sparrows, finches, thrushes and juncos live in the cloud forest.

We observed this beautiful moth outside the dining lodge.
