NKU TO COMPETE IN N. CAROLINA

Norse cross country teams at Greensboro, N.C.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University cross country teams will travel to Greensboro, N.C., this Saturday to participate in the Hagen Stone Classic.

NKU has captured both the men’s and women’s team titles in this event the past two years. In 2000, the NKU men posted a perfect team score (15) en route to the first-place finish. A year ago, the Norse repeated by finishing with 25 total points.

Doug Fulmer has been NKU’s top runner this season and has two top-10 finishes. Fulmer’s best time in 2002 was 26:48 at Cedarville, Ohio, two weeks ago in the eight-kilometer Friendship Invitational.

The NKU women also own two consecutive first-place finishes while running in Greensboro. A year ago, the Norse totaled 25 points and were led by Elaine Koenig’s time of 19:14 (fourth place). In 2000, the NKU women captured first-place honors with a score of 22.

Koenig has two top-10 finishes this season and has been the Norse’s top runner. She finished the five-kilometer Friendship Invitational in 19:05 - good for seventh place - at Cedarville, Ohio.
