NKU TO HOST NORSE CROSS COUNTRY CLASSIC

Inaugural event to take place at 4:30 p.m. this Friday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University will play host to the inaugural Norse Cross Country Classic this Friday (Sept. 10) at A.J. Jolly Park in Alexandria, Ky.

The women’s five-kilometer race will start at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men’s eight-kilometer race at 5:15 p.m. An awards presentation will take place at 6:15 p.m. The top 15 individuals in each race will receive awards, along with the winning teams.

In addition to NKU, participating teams will include Great Lakes Valley Conference members Lewis University and the University of Indianapolis, plus Marian (Ind.) College, Georgetown (Ky.) College and Berea College.

NKU began its season this past weekend at the University of Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge. NKU freshman runner Brad Bullock posted a 30th-place finish in the men’s five-kilometer run with a time of 16:22. Norse junior Greaham Niemer finished 35th with a time of 16:26.

NKU junior Tracy Carskadon finished 16th in the women’s race with a time of 19:52. Norse freshman Julianne Hoekzema posted an 18th-place finish in a time of 20:02.

Later this fall, NKU will also play host to the GLVC Championships at A.J. Jolly Park. NKU has not hosted the GLVC Championships since 1995.
