NKU TAKES FIRST PLACE AT OWN CLASSIC |

Carskadon leads NKU to victory in Norse Cross Country Classic |

ALEXANDRIA, Ky. - Tracy Carskadon took first-place honors to lead Northern Kentucky Universitys womens team to the inaugural Norse Cross Country Classic title with a score of 44 at A.J. Jolly Park on Friday. Carskadon, a junior and a graduate of Oak Hills High School, crossed the finish line in a time of 19:26 in the womens five-kilometer race. Teammate Julianne Hoekzema finished in second place with a time of 19:36. Lisa Sand of NKU took 12th place with a time of 21:12, while Rachel Stoehr (21:19, 14th place) and Sarah Eggleston (21:22, 15th place) also contributed to the Norses victory. NKU finished ahead of Great Lakes Valley Conference members University of Indianapolis (45 points) and Lewis University (53 points) in the race. Marian (Ind.) College was fourth with a score of 68. In the mens eight-kilometer race, Lewis won the team title with a score of 24. Five Flyer runners placed in the top 10 finishers in the mens race. NKU freshman Keith Knapp was the Norses top finisher with a time of 26:55, which was good for ninth place overall. Greaham Niemer placed 12th with a time of 27:13 and helped the Norse finish second in the team standings with 66 points. NKUs Adam Stoppelwerth finished the race in 27:24 (15th place), while Brad Bullock completed the course in 27:42 (18th place). Eric Granacher (27:57, 19th place) gave NKU five finishers in the top 20. NKU will also play host to the GLVC Championships at A.J. Jolly Park later this fall. NKU has not hosted the GLVC Championships since 1995. |
