HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team will begin Great Lakes Valley Conference play at 7 p.m. Wednesday night when Bellarmine University visits Regents Hall for the 2003 home opener. NKU is 3-5 overall after posting a 29-31, 35-33, 30-16, 30-19 win over Hillsdale (Mich.) College on Saturday in the final match of the GLVC/Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover Tournament at Findlay, Ohio. Nicole Salisbury led the Norse with 22 kills and a .419 hitting percentage against Hillsdale. NKU will also play host to the GLIAC/WVIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament this weekend. The Norse will open that 18-team event at 5 p.m. Friday against Alderson-Broaddus College, and they will later take on three-time defending Great Lakes Region champion Grand Valley State University at 7:30 p.m. NKU will close out the tournament on Saturday with matches against Ferris State University (12:30 p.m.) and Wheeling Jesuit University (5:30 p.m.). Grand Valley State is ranked No. 13 nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll, while Wheeling Jesuit - which shocked the Lakers last week at Allendale, Mich. - is ranked No. 21 in the nation. WELTER HAS CAREER DAY: Cammi Welter recorded a career-high 32 kills Saturday as NKU defeated Lake Superior State University, 30-27, 31-29, 27-30, 30-25. She now ranks No. 7 on the NKU all-time career list with 1,167 kills. Welter needs just 17 kills to move past Peggy Ziegler (1,183 kills) for sixth place on the list. NKU PLAYERS NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT: Welter and Kristin Koralewski were both named to the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover All-Tournament Team. Welter had 75 kills, 53 digs, a .254 hitting percentage, nine service aces and nine total blocks at the tournament. Koralewski recorded four consecutive double-doubles at the tournament, and she ranks No. 2 on the team with 100 kills.
