NKU WINS NINTH STRAIGHT

Lanham just misses triple-double as Norse defeat Saint Joseph’s

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Andrea Lanham recorded 49 assists, 12 kills and a .571 hitting percentage Saturday as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team defeated Saint Joseph’s College, 24-30, 30-23, 30-15, 30-24, in Regents Hall.

Lanham, a freshman setter, also added nine digs as the Norse won their ninth straight match and improved to 10-5 overall, 3-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. NKU dropped the opening game after hitting just .140, but the Norse rallied and took the next three to pick up the victory.

Three other NKU players - Cammi Welter, Nicole Salisbury and Kristin Koralewski - also added double-doubles. Welter finished with 15 kills and 11 digs, Salisbury added 10 kills and 15 digs, and Koralewski had 11 kills and 16 digs.

Maggie Pugh collected 13 kills and finished with a .476 hitting percentage for NKU, and she also added six blocks. Amber Timmons collected 17 digs for the Norse, who rallied from a 21-17 deficit in the fourth game.

Lanham keyed NKU’s 13-3 game-ending run with three kills, and Pugh finished off Saint Joseph’s (4-12 overall, 1-1 GLVC) with kill off an assist from Lanham to end the match. The Norse have won 13 consecutive matches in Regents Hall dating back to last season.

NKU will play host to the University of Findlay - the last team to defeat the Norse - at 7 p.m. this Wednesday in Regents Hall. The Oilers posted a 3-1 win over NKU on Sept. 5 at Findlay, Ohio.

NKU will also travel to Kenosha, Wis., next Friday for an 8 p.m. match against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
