HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Kristin Koralewski has been named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II National Player of the Week.
Koralewski, a junior outside hitter, tallied 83 kills, 45 digs, three double-doubles and a .439 hitting percentage last week as NKU posted a 5-0 record. She also had 11 service aces and helped the Norse go unbeaten (4-0) during the Great Lakes Region Crossover and defeat two nationally ranked teams.
Koralewski, a native of Muskego, Wis., capped her week Saturday by recording 25 kills, a .590 hitting percentage and 10 digs as NKU defeated 21st-ranked Wheeling Jesuit University, 30-23, 30-21, 27-30, 30-20, in Regents Hall. The Norse won their seventh straight match and improved to 8-5 with the victory.
Koralewski picked up nine kills in the opening game against Wheeling Jesuit to key NKU’s 30-23 win, and the Norse rolled to the important regional victory in four games.
Earlier on Saturday, Koralewski finished with 20 kills, 13 digs and a .410 hitting percentage as NKU posted a 30-24, 30-24, 24-30, 30-27 win over Ferris State University.
For the week, Koralewski averaged 16.6 kills (4.88 kpg) and 9.0 digs per match. She now has seven double-doubles this season and ranks No. 1 on the team in service aces (27), digs (155) and hitting percentage (.343).
Koralewski is just the third player in Norse history to earn the AVCA’s National Player of the Week honor. NKU’s Jenny Jeremiah was also named the AVCA National Player of the Week in 1999, and the Norse’s Bethany Gastright earned the honor in 2000.
Koralewski was also named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week. It marked the second time in Koralewski’s career that she has earned the GLVC honor.
NKU will play host to the University of Indianapolis this Friday at 7 p.m. in Regents Hall.
