NKU FINISHES OFF IMPRESSIVE WEEK

Koralewski tallies 25 kills as Norse defeat No. 21 Wheeling Jesuit

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - If she continues to perform like this, Northern Kentucky University’s Kristin Koralewski is going to see her name on a lot of All-Region and All-America ballots in November.

That’s because Koralewski played like an All-American at this weekend’s Great Lakes Region Crossover, and the junior outside hitter’s performance helped NKU post a 4-0 record - including wins over two teams ranked in the NCAA Division II Top 25 poll - at the event.

Koralewski capped her big week Saturday by recording 25 kills, a .590 hitting percentage and 10 digs as NKU defeated 21st-ranked Wheeling Jesuit University, 30-23, 30-21, 27-30, 30-20, in Regents Hall. The Norse won their seventh straight match and improved to 8-5 with the victory.

Koralewski also added four service aces as the Norse capped a 5-0 week. In addition to going 4-0 at the Great Lakes Region Crossover, NKU also posted a three-game win over Bellarmine University on Wednesday.

During those five matches, Koralewski tallied 83 kills, 45 digs, three double-doubles and a .439 hitting percentage. She also had 11 service aces and continued her outstanding passing for the Norse.

Nicole Salisbury added 19 kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the win against Wheeling Jesuit (12-2). The Norse attacked the ball at a .380 clip against Wheeling Jesuit and coasted to the victory.

Earlier on Saturday, Koralewski finished with 20 kills, 13 digs and a .410 hitting percentage as NKU posted a 30-24, 30-24, 24-30, 30-27 win over Ferris State University. Cammi Welter added 18 kills and 16 digs for NKU, which recorded its 700th all-time victory with the triumph against the Bulldogs.

Kaliana Kalache added 13 kills and a .632 hitting percentage for NKU, which hit .338 as a team. Freshman setter Andrea Lanham finished with 58 assists and six kills for the Norse.

On Friday, NKU defeated 13th-ranked Grand Valley State University, 30-25, 30-20, 24-30, 24-30, 17-15, in Regents Hall. NKU is now 8-1 against Great Lakes Region competition this season, and the Norse are expected to be near the top of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll when that poll is released for the first time.
