NKU reaches 20-win plateau for 11th straight season

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Kristin Koralewski finished with 14 kills and a .367 hitting percentage Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team posted a 30-17, 30-21, 30-12 win at the University of Illinois-Springfield.

Nicole Salisbury added 10 kills and a .381 hitting percentage for NKU, which improved to 20-10 with the non-conference win. It marked the 11th consecutive year that NKU has reached the 20-win plateau.

Maggie Pugh finished with eight kills and a .667 hitting percentage for NKU, which converted 45 of 86 attack attempts with just eight errors for a .430 hitting percentage. Cammi Welter added eight kills and 12 digs for the Norse, who collected a total of 13 blocks.

NKU setter Marcela Cunha had a match-best 35 assists. It was the first-ever meeting in volleyball between NKU and Illinois-Springfield, which dropped to 9-26 with the loss.

NKU will resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Quincy University at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Norse lead the GLVC standings with a 10-2 record and will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament if they win their three remaining matches.

Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville lost at the University of Southern Indiana in three games Friday night to drop out of the overall lead in the GLVC. The Cougars are 9-2 in the GLVC after the loss to Southern Indiana.
