HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team can wrap up the No. 1 seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a pair of wins at home this weekend. NKU, 21-10 overall, is in sole possession of first place in the GLVC with an 11-2 record. The Norse play host to the University of Southern Indiana at 7 p.m. Friday, then close out the regular season with a 1 p.m. Saturday contest against Kentucky Wesleyan College. If NKU defeats both Southern Indiana and Kentucky Wesleyan, the Norse will play host to the GLVC Tournament Nov. 13-15 in Regents Hall. NKU would play at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 13 against the No. 8 seed - most likely the University of Missouri-St. Louis - in the first round of that event. The Norse took control of the GLVC standings last Saturday with a 30-16, 30-17, 30-26 road win against Quincy University. Kristin Koralewski had 18 kills, 11 digs and a .394 hitting percentage to lead NKU past Quincy. Koralewski ranks No. 3 in the GLVC in kills (4.33 kpg), No. 4 in hitting percentage (.331) and No. 7 in service aces (0.43 sapg). NKU senior setter Sara Taylor is averaging 15.33 assists per game since returning to the lineup. As a team, NKU ranks No. 1 in the GLVC in kills per game (16.37) and No. 2 in hitting percentage (.273). Prior to Fridays match against Southern Indiana, NKU will honor Taylor, Cammi Welter and Nicole Salisbury in Senior Night ceremonies. The Norse will also be looking to avenge last years two losses against the Screaming Eagles. NKU holds a 28-7 lead in the all-time series against Southern Indiana. The Norse own a 14-2 all-time record against the Screaming Eagles in Regents Hall. |
