NKU DEFEATS TSU IN NCAA II TOURNAMENT

NKU advances to Midwest Regional championship with 5-2 victory

 

EDMOND, Okla. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s tennis team defeated Truman State University, 5-2, in the first round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament on Friday.

NKU, which improved to 14-3, advances to Saturday’s Midwest Regional championship match against top-seeded Eastern New Mexico University - a 5-2 winner over the University of Central Oklahoma on Friday. NKU was the No. 3 seed entering the Midwest Regional, and Truman State was seeded No. 2.

Truman State (18-3) took a quick 2-1 lead Friday by winning two of the three doubles matches. NKU, however, won four straight in singles competition to capture its first-ever NCAA Tournament match.

Sophomore Jamie O’Hara defeated Truman State’s Oleysa Paramonova, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 1 singles competition to spark NKU’s victory. O’Hara improved to 14-1 this season with that win.

Junior Claudia Ruehl, a Boone County High School graduate, clinched the match for NKU at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Jessica McKinney. NKU is now 14-0 against Division II competition this season.

Konrad-Graham (TSU) defeated Chapman-McQueen, 9-7
