NKU DEFEATS MERCYHURST, 3-1, ON SUNDAY

Norse advance to NCAA Division II Final Four

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Lindsay Smith scored two goals Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team defeated Mercyhurst (Pa.) College, 3-1, in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky.

After a scoreless first half, Smith gave NKU a 1-0 lead with a goal off an assist from Jeanna Martin. Smith later gave the Norse a 2-0 lead off an assist from Betsy Moore at the 56:57 mark.

Mercyhurst’s Lindsay Cook cut the lead to 2-1 with an unassisted goal at the 65:11, but Martin iced the match for NKU with a goal off an assist from Moore with less than two minutes remaining.

NKU improved to 22-2 with the victory, and the Norse have now won 10 consecutive matches. Mercyhurst finished the season 16-6. The Norse advance to the NCAA Division II Final Four at a site to be announced this week. The Final Four will be held Dec. 3-5.
