NKU TO HOST UMSL IN GLVC 1ST ROUND WEDNESDAY
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team will play host to the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky.
NKU (17-2) is the No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament, and UMSL (7-11-1) is seeded seventh. During the regular season, NKU posted a 3-1 win against UMSL at the Town & Country Sports Complex. The Norse are ranked No. 10 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll and No. 1 in the Central Region ratings.
The winner of this match will advance to Edwardsville, Ill., for the GLVC semifinals on Saturday to play the winner of the Southern Indiana/Wisconsin-Parkside first-round match. Southern Illinois at Edwardsville is the No. 1 seed and host for the GLVC Tournament.
NKU is paced in scoring by sophomore forward Betsy Moore, who has a GLVC-leading 46 points (18 goals, 10 assists). The Norse also feature sophomore midfielder Tricia Ruark, who has 14 goals and seven assists.
Freshman forward Kristen Noakes has scored nine goals and added eight assists, and sophomore defender Amanda Trout has four goals and four assists.
Sophomore goalie Lauren Piening has a 0.57 goals against average and owns 12 shutouts this season. She also has 74 saves in 1,728 minutes of action.
A year ago, NKU captured the GLVC Tournament championship by defeating Quincy, Southern Illinois at Edwardsville and Southern Indiana. The GLVC Tournament matches against SIUE and Southern Indiana were both played at Edwardsville, Ill.
