NKU POSTS 6-1 WIN AT GANNON

Norse improve to 3-0 with road victory

ERIE, Pa. - Kristen Noakes and Aisling Callaghan scored two goals each Friday as the Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team defeated Gannon (Pa.) University, 6-1.

Noakes scored twice in the first half for NKU, which improved to 3-0 with the road victory. The Norse, who built a 5-0 lead at the break, are ranked No. 3 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.

Kendra Zinser added a pair of assists for NKU, and Stephanie Sandfoss scored a goal and had two assists. NKU attempted 26 shots and limited Gannon (1-2) to just five shots.

The Norse took a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the match when Callaghan scored a goal off an assist from Sandfoss. Noakes made it 2-0 at the 7:52 mark with a score that was assisted by both Zinser and Katie Hanck.

NKU will conclude its road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against 19th-ranked Mercyhurst (Pa.) College. The Lakers defeated NKU by a 1-0 score in the regular season in 2001, but the Norse won the rematch during the NCAA Division II Tournament, 2-1, at Erie, Pa.
