WILDER, Ky. - Stephanie Sandfoss scored a goal and added an assist Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 3-0, at the Town & Country Sports Complex. Aisling Callaghan and Kristen Noakes also added goals for NKU, now 8-0 overall, 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. The Norse attempted 20 shots Sunday and limited Missouri-St. Louis (4-4, 0-1 GLVC) to just seven shots. Callaghan gave NKU a 1-0 lead at the 24:02 mark by chipping in a shot off an assist by Sandfoss. The Norse made it 2-0 just before halftime when Sandfoss took a pass from Amy Martini and beat the Missouri-St. Louis defense for a goal. Noakes capped the NKU scoring at the 71:28 mark by tracking down a long lead pass from Robyn Withers and scoring on a 15-yard shot. Norse goalies Megan Zalla, Sam Westerling and Jennie Ulrey combined for the shutout and three saves. NKU is now 31-0-2 in its last 33 matches against GLVC teams. The Norse have not lost to a GLVC opponent since Oct. 9, 1999, when Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville posted a 3-1 win over NKU. NKU will play at Quincy University at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The Norse also have a road contest against SIUE at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. |
