HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team, unbeaten and ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, will play host to the University of Indianapolis at noon Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. NKU, now 7-0 overall, 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, is ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll for the first time in the programs history. Indianapolis - which plays at Bellarmine on Friday - is 6-0 overall, 2-0 in the GLVC. NKU defeated Indianapolis twice last year, posting a 1-0 overtime win during the regular season and later recording a 6-0 victory in the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament. NKU junior Bessie Black continues to lead the GLVC in scoring with 28 total points. Black has nine goals and 10 assists. NKU senior Jeanna Martin ranks No. 3 in the GLVC with 20 points (seven goals, six assists). As a team, NKU leads the GLVC in scoring with 6.7 goals per game. The Norse are 21-0-2 during their last 23 matches in the regular season. The last team to defeat the Norse in a regular-season match was the University of Missouri-Rolla, which posted a 5-3 win against NKU on Aug. 27, 2000. The NKU men, now 4-4 overall after a 3-2 loss in two overtimes at the University of Charleston (W. Va.) on Wednesday, will face Indianapolis at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex. Both Indianapolis and NKU are 2-0 in the GLVC. NKU junior Jeff Anderson leads the team with three goals, and junior Joaquin Palomeque has two goals and three assists. Freshman goalie Nate Madden owns two shutouts and a 2.20 goals against average. |
