BUSHELMAN EARNS GLVC HONOR

Norse senior named GLVC Player of the Week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University’s Hope Bushelman has been named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in women’s soccer.

Bushelman, a senior midfielder/defender and a graduate of McNicholas High School in Cincinnati, was instrumental in the Norse’s 1-0 victory over then-No. 1 ranked Christian Brothers University on Sunday. Bushelman marked CBU All-America forward Missy Gregg - who had 15 goals this season going into Sunday - most of the afternoon and held her to just two shots.

It was the first time this year that Gregg - who scored an NCAA single-season record 73 goals in 2001 - had been held scoreless. Gregg was averaging 3.75 goals per game going into Sunday, but Bushelman’s outstanding defensive play kept Gregg in check the entire match.

Bushelman also played a key role in the Norse’s 2-1 victory over 15th-ranked Tusculum (Tenn.) College last Friday night.

As a result of the two wins against nationally ranked opponents, NKU jumped from No. 3 to No. 1 in this week’s Division II poll.
