NKU wins in 86th minute on Laws score |

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Amy Law headed in a corner kick from Amy Martini late in the second half Friday to give the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team a 1-0 win over Bellarmine University. Laws fifth goal of the season snapped a scoreless tie in the 86th minute and allowed NKU to improve to 9-3 overall, 6-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Martini picked up her fifth assist of the season with the corner kick. NKU goalie Lauren Piening recorded her eighth shutout of the season and picked up three saves. The Norse held a 14-8 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. With the game scoreless and less than five minutes remaining, Martini sent a corner kick into the box. Law finished the play by heading the ball past Bellarmine goalie Merideth Jones into the net for a 1-0 NKU lead. NKU controlled field position most of the second half and attempted four corner kicks during the final 15 minutes. The Norse upped their lead in the all-time series with Bellarmine to 6-1-1. NKU will travel to Owensboro, Ky., on Sunday to meet Kentucky Wesleyan College at 3:30 p.m. |
