NKU REMAINS PERFECT WITH 8-0 WIN |

No. 1 Norse improve to 12-0 with victory at Lewis |

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Betsy Moore tied her own school record with four assists Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated Lewis University, 8-0. Stephanie Sandfoss and Kendra Zinser scored two goals each as NKU improved to 12-0 overall, 6-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse are ranked No. 1 nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll. Sandfoss gave NKU a 1-0 lead 21 minutes into the match with a goal that was assisted by both Moore and Jennifer Wilhelm. Lori Kevill gave the Norse a 2-0 advantage three minutes later with a goal off an assist from Amanda Trout. NKU took a 4-0 halftime lead thanks to goals by Carey Hebbeler (26:36) and Jeanna Martin (27:49). Sandfoss and Bessie Black both scored goals during the first seven minutes of the second half as NKU extended its lead to 6-0. Zinser scored a pair of goals - both assisted by Moore - in the final 20 minutes as NKU remained unbeaten. NKU, which had 11 corner kicks, held a 35-4 advantage in shot attempts. Megan Zalla picked up the shutout and had two saves. The Norse are 26-0-2 during their last 28 matches in the regular season. The last team to defeat the Norse in a regular-season match was the University of Missouri-Rolla, which posted a 5-3 win against NKU on Aug. 27, 2000. NKU will return home this Friday night for a 5:30 p.m. contest against GLVC rival Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. |
