NKU TO HOST GLVC TOURNAMENT

Norse play at noon this Saturday in GLVC semifinals

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University women’s soccer team will play host to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament semifinals and finals this Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 4-5) at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky.

NKU is the No. 1 seed in the GLVC and receives a first-round bye. The Norse will play in the first GLVC semifinal match at noon on Saturday.

NKU, now 16-1-2, will meet the winner of the University of Southern Indiana/University of Indianapolis match. Those two teams will play Wednesday in a first-round match.

If NKU wins on Saturday, the Norse will move into the GLVC championship match, which will be played at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Town & Country Sports Complex.

No. 2 seed Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and No. 3 seed University of Missouri-St. Louis are in the opposite bracket. SIUE will host No. 7 seed University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Wednesday, while UMSL hosts Saint Joseph’s College. The two winners advance to the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

NKU is the two-time defending champion of the GLVC Tournament, and the Norse enter the event ranked No. 6 nationally in the Division II poll.

NKU posted a pair of wins this past weekend at Kirksville, Mo., first knocking off Central Missouri State University, 2-0, and then edging Truman State University, 3-2. Those two wins helped elevate NKU into the No. 1 position in the latest Central Region rankings.

Sophomore midfielder Bessie Black snapped a 2-2 tie on Sunday with a goal in the second half to give NKU the victory. Black now has a team-leading 10 goals this season.

Junior goalie Lauren Piening picked up her sixth shutout of the season on Saturday. Piening now has a 0.61 goals against average. Junior midfielder Tricia Ruark continues to lead NKU in scoring with nine goals and 16 assists.
