OWENSBORO, Ky. - Kendra Zinser scored two goals and added three assists Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University womens soccer team defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 6-0, to capture the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament. Bessie Black and Stephanie Sandfoss also scored two goals each as NKU - ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll for the sixth consecutive week - improved to 15-0-2 overall, 8-0-2 in the GLVC. The Norse will enter the GLVC Tournament as the four-time defending champion. Zinser started the NKU scoring barrage Sunday at the 14:08 mark with a goal that was assisted by Molly Eagan and Hope Bushelman. Sandfoss made it 2-0 at the 27:32 mark off an assist from Bushelman, and the Norse added four goals in the second half to secure the victory. The Norse will host a GLVC first-round contest at noon on Nov. 3 at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. NKU will meet the No. 8 seed - either Saint Josephs College or the University of Indianapolis - in the first round on Nov. 3. If Saint Josephs defeats or ties Bellarmine University this Thursday, Indianapolis will be the No. 8 seed. A loss by Saint Josephs against Bellarmine would knock the Pumas into the No. 8 seed. NKU has never lost (10-0 all-time) in the GLVC Tournament. NKU is 37-0-4 in its last 41 matches against GLVC teams. The Norse have not lost to a GLVC opponent since Oct. 9, 1999, when Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville posted a 3-1 win over NKU. NKU will conclude the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday with a home contest against West Virginia Wesleyan College. |
